“As the son of a survivor of the USS Lexington, I offer my congratulations to Paul Allen and the expedition crew of Research Vessel (R/V) Petrel for locating the “Lady Lex,” sunk nearly 76 years ago at the Battle of Coral Sea,” saidNavy Adm. Harry B. Harris Jr., head of the U.S. Pacific Command. “We honor the valor and sacrifice of the “Lady Lex’s” Sailors — all those Americans who fought in World War II — by continuing to secure the freedoms they won for all of us.”

The Battle of the Coral Sea was notable not only for stopping a Japanese advance but because it was the first naval engagement in history where opposing ships never came within sight of each other. This battle ushered in a new form of naval warfare via carrier-based airplanes. One month later, the U.S. Navy surprised Japanese forces at the Battle of Midway, and turned the tide of the war in the Pacific for good.

Based on some initial success with his M/Y Octopus, Allen acquired and retrofitted the 250-foot R/V Petrel with state-of-the-art subsea equipment capable of diving to 6,000 meters (or three and a half miles). Since its deployment in early 2017, the ship was active in several missions in the Philippine Sea before its transition to the Coral Sea off the Australian Coast.

Allen-led expeditions have also resulted in the discovery of the USS Indianapolis (August 2017), USS Ward (November 2017), USS Astoria (February 2015), Japanese battleship Musashi (March 2015) and the Italian WWII destroyer Artigliere (March 2017). His team was also responsible for presentation to the British Navy in honor of its heroic service. Allen’s expedition team was permanently transferred to the newly acquired and retrofitted R/V Petrel in 2016 with a specific mission around research, exploration and survey of historic warships and other important artifacts.

Together with you we will look at your own possibilities and those in your neighbourhood. Perhaps there is a provision in your neighbourhood that you can make use of. Or a volunteer who can help you. You might even need professional care. However we always start with what you can do yourself and what you want. In other words, help tailored to your needs and matched to your personal situation. As a client you are free to choose who you accept the help and support from.

Coffee table

At Startpunt you can ask your questions at our comfortable coffee table. But if you would like more privacy then we can sit in a separate consultation room. If you would prefer we can speak to you anonymously or we can visit you at home if that suits you better. You can also phone or email us. In a nutshell: you determine how we talk with each other.

More cooperation

Since 1 January 2015, the municipality has been responsible for funding several new tasks in the area of youth care, supervision for adults, and working with an employment disability. As a result of this we expect that organisations will work more closely together. Then they will be able to provide you with an even better service still. Each family or individual will receive a single action plan and wherever possible a single professional to help them. This also applies if there are problems in several areas.

Nabila Haque On Behalf Of Dr. M. Fazle Rabbi Memorial Scholarship Fund

We are Fahria, Samir and Mahir, and Dr. Fazle Rabbi was Abbu, our father.

We are Zeeshan, Hanaa and Nabila, and he was our Abba, Abbu, our father-in-law.

We are Tasneem, Raisah, Aminah, Zayaan, Saihaan, Zade, Aleena, and Zakariya and he was our Nana, Dada, our grandpa.

I am Rukhsana, and he was the best husband.

This fundraiser is to create an endowment giving scholarships in Dr. Fazle Rabbi's memory to students pursuing education in his areas of passion - students of engineering and management, students in rural Bangladesh, and students of Islam in America.

Abba was a wonderful compassionate person, an idealist, and extremely passionate about education. He believed in the power of education to transform the lives of individuals, families and whole societies, and worked to the end of his life to promote education - whether in his capacity as a Professor of Supply Chain Management at the University of Business and Technology in Saudi Arabia, or in developing a vocational training program in his native Bangladesh or in managing a group of scholars and professionals to found a website translating quality Islamic material to Bengali, or the numerous other projects he was involved with. He was a lifelong student, daily striving to increase his professional, personal and spiritual knowledge; during family vacations, I would see him pull out his laptop during a quiet moment to practice a new language or develop a new skill, and a pile of books he ordered recently for yet another certification course sits waiting at my sister-in-law's house.

We hope you will contribute to this legacy of Abba's passion for both technical and spiritual education and keep him in your prayers. If you prefer your donation goes to one of the particular scholarships (Engineering/Management, rural Bangladesh or Islam in America) please indicate it in your donation. Otherwise, we will fund whichever scholarship needs it most. Thank you!
